People performing (with thanks to Act4Africa)

Act4Africa is an organisation with charitable status committed to Christian outreach and delivery of HIV /AIDs preventative education in Africa through the media of interactive teaching using the performing arts and sports for interactive workshops.

Our interactive teaching programmes are designed in order not only to provide information but also to effectively assist individuals to understand high risk behaviours and encourage life skills that reduce vulnerability to infection.

We specifically aim to address the following issues:

I. Increased Sexual Health Knowledge - Delivers culturally relevant information to change attitudes & beliefs about sex, sexual identity, relationships & intimacy. Develop people's skills to make informed choices about behaviour, protecting them from abuse, HIV & STDs

ii. Delivery of HIV/AIDS education & related services - Communicate medical & biological transmission facts; acknowledge the situations which young people confront; challenge prevailing cultural mores and conventions; promote educational, social & sexual equality.

iii. Prevention of social & economic stigmatisation & discrimination - Use education & the creation of an informed, open environment to tackle discrimination at local level. Prevent those living with HIV/AIDS from being isolated & marginalised. Provide support & counselling to HIV+ people.

Act Africa is committed to combating prejudice and challenging fear based messages that lead to the ostracising of those living with HIV/AIDs. Our focus is on raising awareness and understanding of the illness, thereby minimising the impact of discrimination at grassroots levels. Act4Africa logoAct4Africa’s aim is to help to normalise cultural and community responses to HIV/AIDs and empower those living with infection to challenge discrimination and denial.
