Healthcare Forum

Addressing issues relating to mission healthcare provision

Who is it for?

Healthcare Forum Sept 07The Healthcare Forum is for all those involved in healthcare or medical work as an expression of Christian mission. The forum is open to members of other networks engaged in primary and community healthcare, including the Global Mission Network (GMN) of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI), CHAA and PRIME.

What is the focus?

The Forum aims to address issues of concern to those working around the world in Christian healthcare, with a view to better practice and support of individuals. The forum gives an opportunity to hear and learn from health professionals, from both outside and within the forum, with seminar and small group sharing.

What issues have we covered recently?

The Forum organised an HIV and AIDS Focus Day in May 2005 at which the main speaker was Calle Almedal, UNAIDS. The particular emphasis was mobilising the UK and global church to address the pandemic. Previous events have looked at the future of Healthcare Mission in Sub-Saharan Africa and the role of the Christian Hospital in the 21st century. The May 2006 event focussed on the viability of Christian hospitals in mission, with plenary speakers from India.

When do we meet?

The forum meets as a day conference once a year, usually in London. Most meetings start mid-morning to help those needing to travel.

Do we meet virtually?

There is currently no internet discussion group linked to this forum.

Who is the planning team?

The Chair is Steve Fouch (Christian Medical Fellowship/HealthServe). Other members include Robin Arnott (Emmanuel Healthcare), Dr Nick Wooding (ECHO), Dr Peter Armon (Christian Medical Fellowship), Howard Lyons (Christian Medical Fellowship and Christians in Healthcare), and Martin Lee (Global Connections).
