How can I join a discussion on the Global Connections website?
1. Access to Discussion Boards and Moderation
When you visit the site, always login using your username and password (NB If you have never signed up as a user, you need to sign up first - see relevant information on signing up).
2. Signing up to a Discussion Board
A) Go to ‘My Profile’, click on ‘Update my Details’, and add the forums that you are wanting to take an active part in by clicking the ‘edit’ button at the bottom of the page and selecting the relevant forum name. It will take a moment for this change to be acknowledged so you may have to wait a few minutes before accessing the discussion board the first time.
For member only discussions related to particular forums, go to the relevant forum in ‘get involved’ and ‘list of forums.’ For other discussion boards, navigate to the relevant page.
B) If you would like to be notified by email every time someone adds a message to the discussion board, click ‘Add this discussion to My Alerts’ on the main discussion board page. If at a later point, you no longer want to receive these then go to ‘My Profile’, click on ‘Manage My Alerts’ and delete the relevant alert.
C) If you want to respond to an existing discussion, click on the title under ‘Thread’. Your message will then appear as a reply to that message.
D) To start a new discussion:
i) Add a brief title in the ‘Subject’ box (this is the wording that will appear under ‘Thread’ so that others can respond to what you’ve written).
ii) In the main box, make your comment and then click ‘Submit’.
iii) Once you have submitted this, the message is live on the site and everyone who has added this discussion to their alerts will receive an email.
3. Using a Discussion Board
There are two types of discussion boards on the Global Connections website:
- Those open to any visitor
- Those open to members only
However all participants need to have signed up to the Global Connections website in order to avoid spamming and reduce inappropriate messages on the site. All Global Connections discussions are moderated. This does not affect the process of writing messages and any messages you write will be published on the site immediately. Any inappropriate messages will be removed by the Global Connections staff.
