Relief and Development Forum
Improving practice among those working in relief and development
Who is it for?
This forum is for all those working in relief and development, both practitioners and managers. It is run in association with the Micah Network and linked to the Christian Community Development Network. The forum meets twice a year, normally in London.
What is the focus?
Relief and development issues are addressed from a Christian distinctive perspective. Topics are chosen by the Steering Group, helped by suggestions from members of the forum. The forum is an opportunity for networking and mutual learning. In addition, we arrange special training seminars, or masterclasses. Both the forum and the masterclasses aim to lead to better practice. Topics covered recently include:
- partnership
- avoiding dependency - is it possible?
- being distinctively Christian in relief and development
- capacity-building and sustainability
- human rights
- the role of advocacy
- the role of peace building in development
Who makes up the Steering Group?
The Chair is Roland Lubett (All Nations) and team members include Ann Foley (Tearfund), Sheryl Haw (Micah Network International), Andy Sexton (Oasis Global), Peter Staley (International Needs Network) and Martin Lee (Global Connections). The Forum is administered by Sandy Morgan (Global Connections).
Other learning resources
As we seek to improve practice in relief and development, we are keen to share and learn from one another. There are some excellent learning zones for those working in relief and development which are freely available. The Tearfund International Learning Zone has Topics pages and Policy and Research information, as well as links to some excellent publications. Integral Mission has a library of resources including videos, training materials, a reading list, blogs, and stories of transformation.
