Samuel was a successful small businessman in his early 40’s, living in Goa on the western coast on India. He thought of himself as a good person, was very pleased with the business he and his partner had built, and while he did not go to church, he did listen to Christian radio occasionally because he found it uplifting. Life was pretty good. Until one day, his carefully constructed world started to fall apart around him.
Samuel had been looking through the company’s accounts when he noticed something was not quite right in the books. A small amount of money seemed to have gone missing. Worried, he started to keep a closer eye on the books, and as the days went by larger sums began to disappear. Samuel realised his partner was cheating him.
Enraged, and deeply upset, Samuel let the sense of betrayal fester and build in his heart until he became obsessed with the idea of revenge. Finally he came to a decision – he would kill his partner. Samuel plotted his revenge for several days until one morning he got up, armed himself, and prepared to go over to his partner’s house to murder him.
His radio was tuned to a local Feba broadcast, and as he started to leave suddenly he heard the radio presenter say: “In a rage of anger we want to kill and finish the person. But God who is rich in mercy and the creator of human beings wants to save his life. God says, ‘Repent and forgive him – you have no right to take another’s life.’ ”
Samuel was startled and overwhelmed to the point of tears. “The statement pierced my heart!” Samuel remembers. “I wondered how God knew my plot to kill my partner!" "I confessed my sin to God and I pleaded for His mercy. After the programme ended, I went immediately to my partner’s house, spoke with him and we were reconciled. It was a very memorable day in my life.”
Samuel’s life has changed a lot since that day. He is now married and is an active member in his church, where he leads worship. Christian radio has gone from being a light spiritual diversion, to something with strengthens his life-changing relationship with God his Saviour and Creator. Samuel says he will always be grateful to Feba for the message he heard that day. “Had I not listened to God’s Word on the radio,” he says, “my life would have been a very different story.”
