June 2010

Seize the Day: In this month's podcast, John Ayrton is talking to Mark North, from Bolsover Methodist Church, about how they succeeded in reaching one in three of the people in their community.

Mark North says: “I think we worked out that out of a town of ten thousand people, we met with three thousand of them. The Sunday service - we are quite a small church, we have about seventy active people - we had two hundred people in the service. All of those people, virtually, were from outside our church community. We'd never seen them before.”

A Passion for Mission - 15 June 2010 - Just a week to go...: This year we'll be focussing on the issue of social justice and asking key questions about our understanding of mission:

  • How does involvement in social justice influence our gospel proclamation?
  • Is it legitimate to spiritualise, ‘the poor’, ‘freedom for the prisoners’,’ sight for the blind’ etc?
  • Is social justice primarily the responsibility of the state and only a secondary responsibility of the Church?

Saar Fellowship in Bahrain: The Saar Fellowship are developing a survey for sending groups (churches and other organisations), to identify the barriers for sending teams to the Arabian Peninsula, and how they as a church in the Gulf can help them overcome those challenges. They will use the information to develop our own program of hosting short-term teams and to help promote those opportunities.

We hope that you would be willing to help this church in the Middle East as they seek to partner with churches in the UK. Click here to complete the survey (it will take about 5 minutes).

Believers from a Muslim Background (BMBs): The first nationwide conference in the UK for BMB's will be held on the 11th September 2010. This is a wholly BMB initiative for BMB's with the support of the Centre for Islamic Studies of the London School of Theology (LST).

This is a unique opportunity for BMBs to come together from around the United Kingdom to make new friends and to meet and discuss with others the issues and concerns upon our hearts. It is exciting to see more and more Muslims coming to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. As BMBs we have a crucial role to play in these times, not only in supporting each other through encouragement and prayer, but also in informing and equipping the church in the UK about the issues and experiences of BMBs and how they can best support them.

If you are interested in coming and also in inviting anyone to the conference or have any questions, please contact Sandra Khalil at LST on 01923 456162.

Quote/Fact of the Month: In most churches mission is a spasm rather than a heartbeat.” Source uncertain
