After a two-day journey from Nigeria, through Togo and Benin, Innocent was received in Ghana by a Nigerian pastor, where he stayed over the weekend. On the Sunday he was able to share with them from the Scriptures on the subject of the church. The majority of the church’s members were Ghanaians, so Innocent was given a taster of their way of worship – in readiness for understanding their culture in his upcoming visits to other regions. Meanwhile, malaria got the better of him and he had to rest for a day, before setting off for Kumasi and travelling all day to get there.
He went to find Pastor John, whom he had seen the year before, and together they put plans in place to train a group of young people who are very zealous for mission, but who have no training. The training will happen next year, using the Basic and Leadership courses.
Moving on, Innocent travelled to the Eastern Region and met up with Pastor Solomon, who was a graduate of the course. The two of them travelled to Solomon’s home village, where Solomon had been engaged in evangelism. Innocent spent a sleepless night battling mosquitoes, noisy sheep, goat and dogs. He thanked God for morning!
They spent the morning visiting clients and walked 7 kilometres to the next village, visited some of the people, and the Presbyterian Church Pastor. Catching a bus to the regional capital they arrived home in the evening, having had to walk a further 7 km from the bus stop. The goats, sheep and dogs were as noisy as ever through another night!
At the local church Innocent preached from 1 Peter 1:1-12, and Pastor Solomon interpreted. A training programme for local church leaders was arranged for November 2007.
As more and more people are trained in evangelism and leadership, they in turn can help provide a firm knowledge foundation to those in their churches and encourage new people to commit to studying on the courses.
