Press Release

New Partnership Strengthens Mission Network

Global Connections is delighted to announce that Christian Vocations will become a ministry of Global Connections, as of January 1st 2010. “We believe that this partnership will be incredibly advantageous”, commented Martin Lee, GC’s Executive Director, “because, we clearly complement each other, allowing us to improve support and services to our network and develop more quality resources to those who have a heart for mission.”

For over 20 years Christian Vocations has been helping Christians explore their vocation, gifts and service options, and is a major player in personnel recruitment for UK Christian ministries. They believe that their coming together will not only strengthen the mission network but also provide a greater focus on service opportunities for the UK church.

For specific queries or for an interview, please contact Martin Lee on 01926 487755 or by email. Alternatively, go to www.christianvocations.org to visit the Christian Vocations website.

Who is Christian Vocations?

CV exists to resource and challenge Christians to discover and practise their God-given vocation and mobilise them for his service. They achieve this by:

  • Providing details on thousands of opportunities to serve in the UK or around the world.
  • Providing services and support that will enable individuals to reflect on their personal gifting and calling, encouraging everyone to use their gifts in serving God.
  • Providing resources that motivate people and inform them about various topics, answering many of the frequently asked questions we receive.
  • Partnering agencies, events and churches to help challenge and channel people into suitable service opportunities.

Will CV’s services now only benefit GC members?

Certainly not. Yes, members of the network will have the benefit and resources of CV’s activities, but our heart is to provide a service to God’s people, God’s Church throughout the UK (and beyond?). The mission statement for Global Connections is “mission at the heart of the church - the Church at the heart of mission.” Our ambition is to encourage and enthuse individuals, churches and ministries to be “missional” in their lives of work and service, wherever God has placed them, and whatever He has called them to – whether in industry, charity or overt Christian ministry.

What new benefits does the coming together bring?

Here are a few …

  • Strength in depth – greater people resources
  • A wider audience and platform for development and distribution of motivational resources
  • Wider resources and partnerships within the network
  • More motivational resources made available to churches
  • More effective operational / office resources
  • Greater potential development opportunities beyond the UK
  • A renewed sense of vision and ambition for the ministry

Will CV cease to exist?

Not at all. The charity Christian Vocations will be closed down, but the work of CV (and brand name) will continue within Global Connections. There is a commitment and ambition not only to continue the unique ministries of CV but together to strengthen many of the programmes or resources.

What happens to the current CV staff team?

Basically, the two teams from Global Connections and Christian Vocations will merge and form a completely new team.

What will the current CV staff be doing in the new ministry?

Under the leadership of Martin Lee, the Executive Director of the combined operation, staff from CV will be integrated into this new combined team.

  • Paul Lindsay will assume responsibility for exploring and developing job recruitment and vocational advice, and CV’s web site – utilising the extensive people resources within the larger Global Connections network, and beyond.
  • Jo Jowett will take on the broader remit for resources and promotional event activities for the combined ministry.
  • Bev Lindsay will continue in administration, but focus particularly on the collation of material for the major printed resources (Mission Matters, STS, etc.) and the daily administration of web site registrations and database management.
  • Franco Tabbuso will not be employed by Global Connections, but will continue to be involved with the design and production of CV’s major published resources in a freelance capacity.

Where will the office be located?

Global Connections will be continuing at the current main support office in Leamington Spa. CV staff will join them there although they will occasionally working from home to prevent excess travel.

Main office:

Global Connections, Caswell Road, Sydenham Industrial Estate, Leamington Spa CV31 1QF

Tel: +44 (0)121 288 0854 (CV Services)

+44 (0)1926 487755 (Global Connections General)

What about CV’s current services/ministries?

CV’s website and the majority of the current services will continue to function under the CV brand (although naturally acknowledged as part of the ministry of Global Connections).

What about CV’s resources?

Again, they’ll continue – perhaps with slightly different branding.

How will CV’s work be financed?

The move to join Global Connections doesn’t alter the need for ongoing financial support. As CV will still generate a portion of the funds necessary for the combined ministry of Global Connections we trust and pray that those who currently support CV’s heart and work will continue to do so. Donor support for the ministry is still very important. Donors with existing standing orders and gift aid declarations need do nothing for these to continue but we will be in touch with you personally to give further information.
